The Power of Connections

I believe strongly in the power of connections. Business success used to have a lot to do with location. You know the saying: Location. Location. Location. I’d argue that the Internet has made location significantly less important. I can pretty much “meet” and collaborate with anyone thanks to online tools like email, Skype, IM and social media networks (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc).

So now, instead of location, it’s all about connections.

Over the past decade, the personal and professional connections I’ve made have got me where I am today. When I first moved to Salt Lake City in June of 2009, I used social media to connect with a few local folks. Some of those same people are good friends of mine today (See Jeremy Hanks). Just over a year ago, I added my (now) good friend Krista Parry to that list of connections. Like Jeremy, Krista and I met on Twitter. Go figure, right?

Like me, Krista believes in the power of connections. We decided that it was time to join forces and write about connections. Earlier today, we “officially” launched our new co-authored blog, Connect Squared. We’d love it if you take a few minutes to check out what we’re doing over there. Yes, I still be blogging on Social Butterfly Guy. The focus here will continue to be about people.

If you like what you see over on Connect Squared, please consider subscribing via RSS or email. We recently set up a Twitter account as well (nothing fancy yet). Finally, if you have a good tip for connecting others, please share by submitting a 350-word blog post or 60-second video on One Minute To Connect.

Thanks so much for your support in this new project. Krista and I … PUMPED!
