New Skin. Cleaner Look. Higher Frequency. More Passion.
Yup. That pretty much sums up the new Social Butterfly Guy.
Shortly after I quit my job to rediscover my passion, I decided I needed to blog more frequently. The only problem? My blog had not been “refreshed” in over 5 years. In Internet years, that’s … well … a really freaking long time.
I posted the following on Facebook:
Moments later, my buddy and colleague Joe Manna emailed me. He offered to reskin my blog for free. He had me at free. Actually, he had me at Joe Manna. I’ve known Joe for several years. Super-smart, talented, fun-loving guy. I was honored that he was willing to do this for free.
Fast forward to a few moments ago and … voila! The new Social Butterfly Guy has been (re)born!
New Skin. Cleaner Look.
I told Joe I was looking for a “clean” look to the blog. Something that was much less busy than what existed before (link to old blog). I sent over a few examples of websites/blogs I liked, and Joe was off and running. What you see here today is 95% of what Joe initially presented to me. We (well, mostly Joe) tweaked things a bit and the rest is history.
Joe will be writing a blog post sharing more of the process so I’ll save the details for him, but suffice to say, the blog is now much much cleaner. Just look at the left nav (or top if you are viewing on a smaller device like a smartphone). Only 3 tabs (About, Podcasts, and Speaking)
I definitely still have an opt-in, so you can get fresh blog posts delivered to your inbox, but that’s really it.
And by the way, I would LOVE it if you subscribed. Before doing so, please (please!) read the About page as it will give you an idea of who I am and what sorts of content I have written about in the past and what I plan on writing going forward.
Note: With any new site, there are sure to be issues such as links not working, typos (spelling, grammar, etc), images looking funky, and so on. If you see something that looks “odd,” drop a comment below or message me on any social network (pretty much “djwaldow” everywhere online) and we’ll get ‘er fixed!
Higher Frequency
It happens to nearly every blogger.
They have good intentions to write more often, but … well … they “get busy” or [insert other excuse here]. I had plenty of excuses for not blogging more often. However, just like anything else, the more you do it, the better you get at it. It in this case is writing. I want to continue to hone my writing skills (one of the many reasons I pre-ordered Ann Handley’s new book Everybody Writes).
I’m (publicly) committing to write more often! No, I’m not signing a pledge. No, I’m not promising. But I will do my best. I love to write. I love to speak. I have a lot to say and hope that some of it is interesting to you.
Also, as mentioned, you can subscribe to get fresh blog posts delivered via email – but first read my About page. I’m moving from Feedburner to Mailchimp. If you’re a current subscriber to this blog (thanks!), not too much will change other than a new look to the email that gets sent when I publish new content. That’s all. Oh, and an easier way to opt-out. If you so choose.
More Passion.
Huh? What the heck does that mean? Ha.
Patience. If you follow me on Facebook, you know that I’ve been talking a lot lately about PASSION. If you read this blog, you know I wrote about rediscovering my passion.
Starting soon, I’ll be uncovering exactly what that means and what I’m doing around … PASSION.
Note: If you go to the Podcasts page, it’s not really that big of a secret. Ha!
I can’t wait to share the full details. Soon. Very very (very) soon.
And with that, I’m out! Thanks so much for reading down this far. If you skimmed and are reading this, that’s cool too.
Oh, and one last thing. See those fancy social sharing buttons below. If you want good karma, you’ll hit a few of them and share this post with your social networks. THANKS!
