The Power of a Smile

Eva has a new trick. She’ll look at a person – stare, in fact – until they acknowledge her. Then, she smiles. Then waves. Then double waves. Then laughs. Then does the head-bob dance move.

I bet just the act of reading that first paragraph above made you smile. (If it didn’t read it again.)

The power of a smile. Such a simple act, yet one that can instantly change a mood for the better. Maybe it’s just because I’m a new dad. Maybe it’s because I love people. Either way, when someone – a baby, child, or adult – looks at you and smiles, it’s tough to not smile back.

That’s power.

My challenge to you: The very next time you encounter another human being, look them in the eyes and smile. A real, genuine smile. See what happens. Report back in the comments below.
