Help Send a Child To School For a Year

Zions Children of Haiti LogoAs part of last month’s 28-Day Challenge (Good Deeds)*, I created an opportunity for the 100+ participants to do an “easy” good deed: Donate $2 to Zion’s Children of Haiti. For each $220 that is raised, this organization will send one child to school for a year.

*Yes, I still need to write a blog post recap of this absolutely incredible challenge.

More About Zion’s Children of Haiti

I first heard about Zion’s Children of Haiti from Parker Smith and Courtney Droz, whom I met at an Ignite Salt Lake speakers dinner. According to their website,

Zion’s Children of Haiti is a diverse group of individuals who have come together around the drastic need for humanitarian aid in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

The organization was started as the dream-child of concerned families in the hurricane shattered town of Gonaives, and formal partnership with the US began in May of 2009.

With an initial focus on elementary school education in Gonaives- as the key to opening doors for futures of hope- other programs include skill training, language training and orphan care are future goals of the organization.

Annual school support costs around only US $220 per child, including uniform and books (emphasis mine). This cost is small but is far out of the reach of most families in Gonaives. More on Project Gonaives.

If you want to learn even more about Zion’s Children of Haiti, I’d encourage you to spend 5 minutes watching Courtney and Parker give an incredible Ignite talk.

Results From The Good Deeds “Challenge Within a Challenge”

I had originally challenged this “Good Deed a Day” group to raise enough money to send 1 child to school for a year ($220). Within the first 24 hours, we blew past the $220 goal. So I did what any good fundraiser would do and raised the goal (to $660). The good news is that we raised $360 total. The not-as-good news is that we got stuck at $360, leaving us $300 short of the goal to send 3 Haitian children to school for a year.

ChipIn: Zion's Children of Haiti

How YOU Can Help

If you hadn’t guessed by now, I’m asking for your help in reaching the $660 goal. We are 54% of the way there as of today. I’ve created another ChipIn (embedded below as well as here). I’m keeping it open for one week, ending on Monday, September 26.

If you’ve never used ChipIn before, don’t worry – it’s super easy. Click the ChipIn! button below (or here) and login to your PayPal account. The rest should be fairly straightforward. If you do not have a PayPal account, click the “Don’t have a PayPal Account?” link (after clicking ChipIn!) and you’ll be well on your way to sending a child to school for a year.

Thank you so much. And please, don’t forget to share with your social networks – Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, &/or Google+ using the icons below.

Note: The only way I was able to set this up was to have you send money to my PayPal account. Sorry if this makes you uncomfortable. You’ll just have to trust me!
