Finally. My 15 seconds of fame.
[UPDATED 12/9/10] On Tuesday, December 7th at 12:45PM ET, I was on MSNBC (live!). The topic was “finding a job via Twitter.” Below is the 3+ minute segment.
Note: I’m not sure why I looked drunk/tired/nervous in the first 30 seconds or so. I just wasn’t sure what to do. Looking back, I guess I could have smiled. Ha!
Keep reading below if you’d like to learn a bit more about how I got here…
How I Got Here
As you may know, Twitter actually helped me land my gig at Blue Sky Factory.
While I wrote that blog post nearly a year and a half ago, I received an email from friend / Blue Sky Factory client, Sharon Mostyn on October 5th letting me know about a HARO opportunity from Mashable titled, “I got hired on Twitter.” The query read,
I’m looking for individuals with interesting stories of how they were hired for a job using Twitter. Please send your story to me ASAP, including the following details: – How did you use Twitter to get your job? – What was the job title and company? – What was your job search strategy? This story will post on Saturday, 10/9 and responses are urgent.
Of course, I replied immediately. One of the great parts about having a blog is that I was able to quickly reference the post. I was pleasantly surprised to see my name in print a few months later when Mashable published the story on November 27th: 6 Ways to Score a Job Through Twitter (see #6).
Personally and professionally, I’m a huge fan of Mashable. As you can imagine, I was pretty excited to see a snippet of my story in the article. Better yet, they linked back to my blog (Thanks, Mashable!).
Then, on December 3rd, I saw this tweet from @MSNBC_Booking:
After a bit of back and forth, I was confirmed. The rest, as they say, is history.
Love to hear what you thought of my 15 seconds of fame.
