Why I Quit Bottled Water 594 Days Ago…And You Should Too!

Smart WaterEarlier this week, I was honored to speak at Ignite Salt Lake. It was my second presentation at this event – the first being back in March when I spent 5 minutes talking about the word DUDE.

This talk was a bit more on the serious side.

Per the Ignite format, each speaker has 20 PowerPoint slides that automatically advanced every 15 seconds for a total presentation time of 5 minutes. If you’ve ever attended an Ignite event, it’s wild. Talks range from hilarious to serious to random. People talk about zombies, technology, Homer Simpson - whatever they are passionate about. Some speakers all well-seasoned veterans while others are bravely the spotlight for the very first time.

If you’ve ever presented at an Ignite, you know it can be scary and exhilarating all at once. The slides go fast. The audience can be rowdy (they often serve adult beverages). You must be on your game, at your best. As Al Iverson would say, “We talkin’ ’bout Practice (not a game).

So, without further ado, I bring you my Ignite Salt Lake talk.

Why I Quit Bottled Water 594 Days Ago…And You Should Too!

I quit drinking bottled water on January 1, 2009 for a few reasons:

  • Cost: Why pay for something you can out of the tap for pennies?
  • Environmental Impact: Energy, oil, water, and a ton of other stuff goes into making, transporting and disposing of bottled water. Never mind the fact that 80% of water bottles end up in landfills.

Below is my presentation. Big props to Clark Winegar of Mustache Power for the killer video production.

Hey this is the nice presentation. I also prefer tap water and me and my family drink tap water only. :)

Great presentation DJ ! I'm working on a photography project which demonstrates how wasteful Canadians are with disposable coffee cups. Take a look if you have a minute www.yourtrashgoeshere.blogspot.com .

Cheers!

Hey Chaf! Love the project you are doing. I'll be on the lookout for coffee cups ... in the USA of course.

Thanks for your comments.

As an aside for my own, personal gooberiness, THANK YOU for not saying, "as per." <golf clap for DJ>

For your presentation, I say, "DARNED. RIGHT." Everyone thinks that drinking bottled water is super-healthy and I suppose that it is. Ish. But so much energy and money is wasted in its production and consumption ... most people have no idea. Tap water is better for your teeth, too. :)

Melissa - Thanks so much for your comment! I actually hesitated when I wrote "per" ... but then remembered! <golf clap back at you>

Isn't amazing how we've all been brainwashed into believing bottled water is better for us?
