A week ago today, Eva became a big sister.
On June 1, 2012 at 2:08PM MT, Cal Viking Waldow was born.
As you can imagine, Kristina and I are thrilled. Some days Eva is really excited too. Other days, she could care less. From what I understand, that’s pretty typical for a 2-year-old. I can’t blame her though. Newborns are not really that exciting, right? Sleep. Eat. Poop. Pee. Eat. Sleep. Eat. Poop. Repeat.
We are quickly adjusting to life as a family of four. Honestly, I’m not sure how people with more than two children do it (I’m looking at you, Jenn).
Any advice from parents of 2 or more children? We’re all ears!
About The Name: Cal Viking
Many people have asked about the name.
Cal is not short for Calvin nor is it related to the State of California … even though we’ll be moving there in 3 weeks. Speaking of Cal/California, Kristina landed a job at Stanford. For those college football fans out there – Cal/Stanford aka “The Big Game.” Oops. I keep telling Kristina that it won’t matter as both Cal and Eva will be attending Michigan (Go Blue!). As it turns out, we decided on Cal about 8 years ago. Kristina and I were at a family friend’s house and their son’s name was Cal. We loved it and agreed if we ever had a son, his name would be Cal. Keep in mind that we had only been dating a few years at that point. Good thing it all worked out!
As far as Viking, it has nothing to do with this Viking, though we love to cook and plan on someday owning a Viking Range. Nor does it have anything to do with these Vikings as I’m a die-hard NY Giants fan! Kristina’s family is Norwegian, so Viking is more closely related to these Vikings (Norsemen). Viking is the middle name of Kristina’s brother, Jon-Erik. It was also her grandfather and great-grandfather’s middle name.
So there you have it.
Welcome to this world, Cal Viking Waldow – my little man.
