Holy Crap! I’m Gonna Be A Dad!

This is awesome on so many levels..
You're on a chairlift (@ park city!), using iPhone to document your thoughts (how did you hold it so steady?), and you're going to be a dad!! Congrats man!

Um, this is adorable. You have to keep it and show it to your daughter when she's 25-ish (when she'll finally appreciate you!). :)

Happy New Year DJ! 2010 is going to be an exciting year! I can't be I'm going to be a great uncle for the 5th time! That always sounds wierd :-) You and K-Dawg are going to be fantastic parents....I cant wait to see you both in action and meet baby Waldow! Awesome realization video as well...glad I got to see the first 'Holy Crap' moment!

I remember that exact same moment, I think that Holy Crap moment is always a couple of months off for us guys. My daughter is 2 already and it just gets more and more insanely amazing every single day. Best of luck in the coming months and I look forward to several more awed video messages. Hope you are prepared for the unpreparable! Congrats and from one father of a daughter to another, good luck!

All very common and don;t feel like the lone ranger. I still to this day after having four, the oldest of which is 10, "Holy crap, I am a responsible adult."

You and K are going to be fantastic parents. And yes, more responsibility, but I think this is just gonna add a whole new layer of fun and frolic to your life. You'll be tired but so stoked to have a munchkin around. I think that's a decent trade-off, no? :)

I love the fact you have shared this "aha" moment with us all. As a Mother to the dearest 5 year old little "wild man" you ever did meet - I truly appreciate your excitement, wonder and delight.

The ride ahead is out of your control in many ways, it will twist and turn often but it will never disappoint or bore you in any way.

As you know, I am about to go through the same journey yet again in May and can't wait.

DJ the adventure will blow your mind and expand your heart in ways you didn't know were possible.

djer - glad it finally hit you! Just kidding. I think it hit me a few times at different points throughout my pregnancy but I think the biggest moment was the moment Tristan was born. In one moment Joe and I were 2. In the next moment we were 3! Somehow you know it is a baby when it is inside of you (or your spouse), but when it comes out and joins this world of ours it is so strange to see a whole baby - It doesn't seem possible that that little person is the same thing that had been inside you for 9 months. I don't know what kind of parents you will be but I too know you will be amazing parents. Please let me know if you figure out a good way to be parents AND keep up with the weekend ski trips. 4 kids in, I am still working on going to the bathroom alone....

Holy Crap is right! Ha. It's absolutely amazing and you will love it. Main thing is it's not about Y-O-U anymore. But keep in mind you can still go skiing, vacationing and everything you did before, it's just more creative and challenging.

Holy Crap I'm going to be a grandfather....ok, I am a grandfather, but with each new grandchild I get that same feeling.... Holy Crap I'm a grandfather!.....and DJ, my advice to you two....enjoy every moment....and talk about unreal....I couldn't possibly be old enough to be a grandfather!

Congrats. It is truly amazing when it hits and it is all you can think about. My moment was the ultrasound seeing him so small just kinda hanging out.

Yes this happens to people everyday but now it is happening to you and that is all that matters. Be proud and happy and enjoy every night of sleep you are getting right now. All worth it. Mine will be 5 in Feb (aren't you feb too? I am as well) and it goes by so fast. We just learned now to ride bike without training wheels.

My moment was when I first felt the baby move. From a place I couldn't identify, I felt a wellspring of a fierce and irrational protective instinct. Savage in its intensity, I'd never experienced anything like it.

Anything I could say will sound cliché, but sometimes clichés exist because there isn't a more essential or base way of communicating the sentiment behind them.

You will measure your life in eras: before and after becoming a parent. You will be asked to put up or shut up in the most elemental of ways, because a kid will force you to live your values like nothing else in this world.

It's the most exhilarating, maddening and bone-wearying job in the world. ..and you'll do great.

DJ - Know the feeling all too well. Wasn't too long that I was in the same spot. Here I am 8 and half weeks in with my daughter, and it still sometimes doesn't feel real.
